Top 10 Free Things to Do in Barcelona



Barcelona is a wonderful city to visit and it need not be expensive. There are free gardens, exhibitions and galleries, and the discovery of the ancient quarter of the market, boulevards, and the church is completely free - you only need to know where to look. So here are my top ten free things to do in Barcelona.

1 Parc Güell.

designed by Antoni Gaudí, Barcelona celebrates the architect, the park is just outside the city, situated on a hill above the town. Designed originally as a residential park, it is a joy to visit and you can easily spend several hours there.

2 Las Ramblas.

is a famous Las Ramblas boulevard that leads from the old port to the Placa Catalunya in the center of old town and is lined with cafe terraces and sycamores.

half-way along Las Ramblas in Barcelona you will find the Opera House - Gran Teatre del Liceu. Directly opposite Café de l'Opera, a perfect place to stop for a drink, or on the terrace or inside where you can enjoy a typical Catalan atmosphere.

a little further away is La Boqueria, a large, bustling food market with architectural displays of fruits and vegetables. Sample inexpensive meals from fresh produce to a restaurant booths.

3 Barrio Gothic.

Gothic Quarter is the oldest part of Barcelona and a maze of narrow streets are full of ancient buildings, shops, cafes and restaurants, which opens on small streets with market stalls selling crafts and foods.

Plaza Real is one of the great squares, great for dining al fresco, and is full of bars and night clubs. Jaume Plaza houses an impressive building of the city council, including the Palacio de la Generalidad.

There are several beautiful churches, most of which are free to enter. Santa María del Pi, one of the best, is dominated by large circular windows, situated in Plaça del Pi, and some of the most important historical buildings, dating from the 14th century, in the Plaça del Rei.

4 Montjuic.

Montjuic is a great mountains in the south of Barcelona with a view of the city, and has lots of gardens, parks, buildings and landmarks. To reach the most dramatic way to Montjuic cable car from the old port, or access to the Plaça Espanya between the two great Venetian tower -. 5 Caixa Forum.

6 Old Port and Barceloneta.

From the bottom of Las Ramblas, walk across a wooden footbridge at the Mare Magnum, a complex of shops and restaurants are looking at the world trade center and port. This area houses an aquarium and IMAX theater, and can continue through the port of Barceloneta.

7 Parc de la Ciutadella.

10 Passeig de Gracia

Passeig de Gracia is a boulevard running from Placa Catalunya to Avinguda Diagonal. This is a wide tree-lined street of beautiful buildings, ornamental iron street lamps, shop (that's designer shopper's paradise), and smart restaurants.
